Progress Report - Book 3: Regency Christmas Wishes by Multiple Authors

I'm afraid Book 3 isn't a 500 novel either.  It is, in fact, a Christmas Regency anthology.  I picked these up at my local college bookstore one day, because I was hungry for more like Georgette Heyer.  And through one of these books, I found someone much like her: Barbara Metzger.

I'm almost finished with this one, Regency Christmas Wishes.  I just have to finish reading the last author, Carla Kelly, whom seems a little like Barbara Metzger, much to my delight.  So far she lacks the delightful, fun twists Metzger is known for, but she does have wit and delightful characters.  In other words, like Metzger and Heyer, she has fun.

My mini-reviews so far:

  • "The Lucky Coin" by Barbara Metzger - For its length, it is a good tale.  Sympathetic but interesting characters, amusing situations, and of course an interesting dog.
  • "Following Yonder Star" by Emma Jensen - Author has writing skills, but her characters were depressing and the story depressed my spirits.
  • "The Merry Magpie" by Sandra Heath - Like with Jensen's tale, I couldn't really get into the characters--namely, the male, for his actions disgusted me.  The magpie was okay, but not enough to save the story for me.
  • "Best Wishes" by Edith Layton - Started off a little shaky for me, in line with the previous two tales, but it got better.  Though it was more "sensual" than I liked.
  • "Let Nothing You Dismay" by Carla Kelly - Still in progress, but like I said, I see something like Barbara Metzger in Carla Kelly, so this is a good sign.
I should finish this anthology today, and then I will have a fuller review.  Hopefully, one with more details on my blog, for I shy away from possible spoilers on Goodreads.
